Setting Up Online Payments (Stripe)

Online payments on CliqMenu are powered by Stripe Connect, available for businesses in Australia and New Zealand. Once set up, your customers can pay with credit card, debit card, Apple Pay, and Google Pay directly from their phone when placing an order.

You do not need to create a separate Stripe account. CliqMenu creates one for you as part of the onboarding process.

How to Connect Stripe

Follow these steps to enable online payments for your business:

  1. Open Business Details in BMS (the side menu has a "Business Details" link).
  2. Click "Connect Stripe" (or "Set Up Online Payments") in the payment settings section.
  3. You will be redirected to Stripe's onboarding page. This is a secure page hosted by Stripe, not CliqMenu.
  4. Complete identity verification (KYC). Stripe will ask for your legal business name, ABN/NZBN, and personal identification to verify your identity. This is a regulatory requirement.
  5. Add your bank account details. This is the account where Stripe will deposit your earnings.
  6. Return to BMS. Once onboarding is complete, you will be redirected back to CliqMenu. Your Stripe connection status will show as Connected.

The entire Stripe onboarding process typically takes 5 to 10 minutes. In some cases, Stripe may need additional time to verify your identity before your account is fully activated.

What Stripe Handles

Once connected, Stripe takes care of the following on your behalf:

  • Payment processing — securely charging customers when they pay online.
  • Identity verification — meeting regulatory requirements (KYC/AML) so you can accept payments legally.
  • Payouts to your bank account — transferring the funds you have earned to your nominated bank account.

How Payouts Work

Stripe sends funds directly to the bank account you provided during onboarding. Payouts follow Stripe's standard schedule, which is typically daily once your account has been active for a short period. You can view payout details in your Stripe dashboard if needed, but CliqMenu's Reports page gives you everything you need in one place.

You do not need to log into Stripe separately to track your earnings. The Reports section in BMS shows all your revenue, including online payments, in a single view.

Before Online Payments Will Work

Connecting Stripe is only the first step. For customers to actually see the online payment option when ordering, both of the following must be true:

  1. Stripe onboarding is complete — your identity is verified and your bank account is linked.
  2. "Online" payment method is enabled for the location — this is configured in the Payment Methods section of your location settings.
